The Area of the Berkshires Bed and Breakfast

Lee and the Berkshires

Applegate is a four-season retreat in the heart of the Berkshires. The region has been described as "A place where nature sets the stage and culture steals the show!". The town of Lee, near Stockbridge, is located in the middle of everything that is happening in the Berkshires. You will find something for every person during each season.

The Norman Rockwell Museum is a wonderful venue and hosts 3 million visitors each year. There are dozens of activities to choose from, you can picnic at Tanglewood, home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra or watch dancers at Jacobs Pillow. There are numerous theaters, jazz clubs and fine art and crafts experiences.

The Clark Institute and Mass MOCA are world-class art museums. There are wonderful outdoor activities to do as well - hiking, boating, swimming, fishing, bicycling, golf, tennis, downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. We are located right across the street from a wonderful golf and tennis club open to the public. The Greenock Country Club features an inviting casual restaurant with great vistas of the golf course.

Shopping at boutiques, outlet stores and antique stores are also activities enjoyed by Applegate guests. Lee has proudly retained its homey, small town appeal. An authentic soda fountain in the drugstore and the last remaining 5 & 10 cent store in the Berkshires helps to add to the character and charm to this small New England town, whose Main Street is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Stockbridge and Lenox Massachusetts

While Applegate is a half mile from Lee's Main Street, both Stockbridge and Lenox are within 6 miles. Each town offers numerous boutiques, galleries and fine restaurants and are within easy reach of acclaimed area attractions.

In summer, attend an outdoor concert at Tanglewood which is the Lenox summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Visit the Norman Rockwell Museum or tee off at the Greenock Golf Course. Return for a swim in our heated pool or enjoy the town's private beach on Laurel Lake. When snowflakes fall, hit the powder at the Butternut Ski Area, which offers both downhill and cross-country skiing.  All year round we have two new theaters in the Berkshires - the Mahaiwe in Great Barrington and the Colonial in Pittsfield.  Check their links below. After an active day, relax and enjoy dinner at one of the fine Berkshire restaurants.

"What a lovely place to experience relaxation, gracious hospitality and all the ambiance of the never typical Berkshires."
