A round of golf is a delightful addition to a summer vacation at our Berkshires bed and breakfast. Start the day well with a delicious and elegant breakfast at the inn, grab your clubs, and go. After the game and some refreshment in the lounge, step back across the street for a relaxing afternoon by our pool. Come evening, head to nearby Lenox or Stockbridge for dinner, or grab a blanket and picnic and enjoy a show at Tanglewood.

An hour south of our Lenox MA bed and breakfast in Connecticut, the Appalachian Trail follows the Housatonic River for several miles. We hiked it in May, and were astounded by the multitude of colorful wildflowers along the trail and the lovely views of the river and valley.

Start west of Cornwall Bridge, and join the Appalachian Trail at Breadloaf Mountain (where you will delight in the views of the Housatonic River and Valley). Head south along the trail, descending into the valley where you’ll walk along the west bank of the wide Housatonic River. There are many good spots to stop and enjoy a picnic while enjoying expansive views. Leaving the AT near the town of Kent makes a great day hike.

We love helping guests of our Berkshires bed and breakfast hike part of the Appalachian Trail. To facilitate your experience, we’ll escort you to your end point, where you can drop your vehicle and catch a ride with us to your starting point.

By evening time, you’ll be ready to relax with a glass of wine and a plate of cheese at our bed and breakfast Lenox.

What does one do at an adventure park? Stretch your idea of what you can do, for one. Climb tall trees, soar from tree to tree on ropes, cross narrow bridges high above the ground, and whizz down zip lines. You won’t believe what you can do until you’ve done it, then you’ll want to do it again.

Catamount Adventure Park takes safety seriously, so you don’t need to worry. It is also understood that for some, it is a great adventure to simply stand at a great height, so the courses come in many different levels. You will find a course on which you can challenge yourself, and you will be thrilled.

A happy couple gets back to nature while riding horses in the Berkshires.

Horseback riding season opens mid-May near our Lenox bed and breakfast, so make your plans to escape from NYC, Hartford or Boston today. Berkshire Horseback Adventures offers trail rides that last an hour, an afternoon, or overnight. You may arrange a private ride, or join a small group. Whether you are an accomplished rider or a novice, you’ll find yourself safely negotiating scenic trails through tranquil Kennedy Park, in Lenox.

After a few hours in the saddle, you are sure to be ready for a little luxury. Return to our bed and breakfast Lenox MA and enjoy a hot soak. If the pool is open, stretch out your sore muscles with a swim and a nap on a lounge chair. Once refreshed, stop by the parlor for a glass of wine and appetizers before heading out to dine at one of the many excellent restaurants in nearby Lenox, Lee or Stockbridge. You will certainly have a good appetite.

Take advantage of our Appalachian Trail Hiker’s Special the next time you stay at our Lenox Bed and Breakfast. We’ll share what we know about the trail, and help you get there. In order to hike the Appalachian Trail, one must either retrace steps, or arrange for transportation. We will drive out with you so you may leave your car at a trailhead, then we’ll drop you at another trailhead further up (or down) the trail. This way you can experience the trail without having to walk it twice.

Perhaps the best part of our home stretch of the Appalachian Trail is that it passes close to so many interesting towns, like Lenox, Lee, and Norman Rockwell’s Stockbridge. It is easy to incorporate a hike into a vacation filled with art galleries, music, and history. You can work up a hearty appetite, and satisfy it at any number of excellent restaurants.

So hike along a high, dry ridgewalk, enjoying views of Vermont, New York, Connecticut and the vast swath of Massachusetts Berkshires. Descend into valleys filled with wildflowers (we’ve counted more than fifty varieties while hiking in May). Or summit Mount Greylock. The Appalachian Trail traverses some of the most beautiful parts of western Massachusetts, and it is just waiting for you.

Experience the Berkshires on a mountain bike

There are well over 100 mountain biking trails in the Central and Southern Berkshires. In fact, there are easily a dozen trails close to our Lenox bed and breakfast.

The Lenox Fire Tower offers a great challenge – the view from the top is worth all the effort it takes to get there, but we can’t say the ride down will be relaxing. October Mountain State Forest has 11 miles of rolling trails, while the trail up Lenox Mountain rewards your hard work with fantastic views.

You’ll be ready to relax with wine and cheese in the living room of our Lenox bed and breakfast, or soak in your generous jetted tub. After an excellent night’s sleep, we’ll provide a delicious, nourishing breakfast to help get you back in the saddle so you can explore more nearby Berkshire mountain bike trails.

Temperatures are climbing and snow is melting. Spring is here.

You can hear the Berkshires calling to you from Boston, Hartford, and NYC. Your legs are yearning to stretch out along a trail. You want to hear birds, not traffic.

It’s time to take a break from city living. Come to our Lee bed and breakfast for a few days. There are many trails nearby, just waiting for you. You may also want to drive 20 miles north of Lenox to Mount Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts. From the top, you’ll feel your spirit soar.

A brevet is an organized, long distance bicycle ride. It is not a race, but is rather a test of each rider’s endurance. The designated routes are unmarked; there are checkpoints along the way with a varied amount of support.

The Berkshire Brevets serve as an introduction to the sport of randonneur cycling. Cyclists should expect to climb approximately 3000 feet in elevation for every 100km. In short, this is a sport for serious cyclists, many of whom hope to ride in the August 2011 Paris-Brest-Paris ride.

The Berkshire Brevets had its first 100km (62mi) event of the season just a few days ago, on March 14. There will be several more randonneur cycling events in the region throughout the spring and summer, including one quite close to our Lenox MA bed and breakfast, the BishBash 300K on May 8.

If you are heading to Western Massachusetts for any of these events, consider extending your ride with a stay at our bed and breakfast Lenox. We will pamper you after the event. Sink into a hot, deep bath. Sip brandy and feel it relax your sore body. Replenish yourself with a gourmet breakfast the next morning. It will feel good.

There is a good deal of snow here now. Ski while you still can!

So when you are feeling tired of winter in the city, head to our Lenox bed and breakfast in the Berkshires. The cold can be refreshing and invigorating under the right circumstances After a weekend of lazy mornings, scrumptious breakfasts and a romp or two in the snow, you’ll be ready to return to winter routine in NYC or Boston.

Kennedy Park is a scenic five miles north of our inn.

Kennedy Park, in Lenox, MA, is just over five miles from our Berkshires bed and breakfast. Old carriage roads and fifteen miles of groomed trails through hardwood forests make Kennedy Park an ideal place to XC ski or snowshoe. If fresh snow has fallen you can even try to ski to Kennedy Park from the inn. You’ll look forward to warming yourselves by the fire back at our inn.

Perhaps the best part of a weekend in the Berkshires is that you don’t need to sacrifice culture. If you tire of outdoor activity, spend an hour or two in one of the many fine museums in the area.

You musn’t forget to ask your innkeepers to share some of their favorite restaurants. There is excellent dining in Western Massachusetts, and you should have a good appetite after several hours in the fresh air.

You may never want to return to the city again.
