Once you are comfortably installed in your room at our bed and breakfast Lenox, take some time to explore our wonderful corner of the Berkshires. After an emotionally stirring evening of music by Herbie Hancock and a host of other musicians, spend a quiet day in the woods. Stroll through our gardens, or allow us to recommend a nearby day hike. It’s the perfect way to round out a trip to Tanglewood.

An hour south of our Lenox MA bed and breakfast in Connecticut, the Appalachian Trail follows the Housatonic River for several miles. We hiked it in May, and were astounded by the multitude of colorful wildflowers along the trail and the lovely views of the river and valley.

Start west of Cornwall Bridge, and join the Appalachian Trail at Breadloaf Mountain (where you will delight in the views of the Housatonic River and Valley). Head south along the trail, descending into the valley where you’ll walk along the west bank of the wide Housatonic River. There are many good spots to stop and enjoy a picnic while enjoying expansive views. Leaving the AT near the town of Kent makes a great day hike.

We love helping guests of our Berkshires bed and breakfast hike part of the Appalachian Trail. To facilitate your experience, we’ll escort you to your end point, where you can drop your vehicle and catch a ride with us to your starting point.

By evening time, you’ll be ready to relax with a glass of wine and a plate of cheese at our bed and breakfast Lenox.

Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane Dance Company at Jacob's Pillow.

One need only look at Choreographer Bill T. Jones’ long career to recognize his brilliance. He won a Tony Award for Spring Awakening, he was awarded the MacArthur Genius Award in 1994, and he won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Choreography for his Broadway hit FELA. Take this opportunity to see his work live at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.

Serenade/The Proposition was created to celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. According to the Jacob’s Pillow website, Jones expertly intertwines video, costume, and sets in this feast for the senses set to a score of American folk music, excerpts from famous Civil War-era speeches and spoken word ranging from personal anecdotes to lyrics from “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” We can’t wait.

Take advantage of all the amenities while staying at our bed and breakfast Lenox MA. Stroll through our six acres of gardens and woods, or walk into charming Lee for dinner. Swim in our pool, or simply lounge by it. Sleep in and indulge in a sumptuous breakfast in the morning, and relax over wine and cheese in the evening. We are just a half a mile from the center of Lee. Sidewalks make walking there safe as well as pleasant, and since the road is wide and not heavily trafficked, biking to town is also fun.

After a lazy morning lounging by the pool at our Berkshires bed and breakfast, head to town for a delicious Vietnamese lunch at Pho Sai Gon. Stroll to town on a summer evening for a delicious Indian meal at Bombay. Or enjoy French bistro style dining at Chez Nous.

Notice the hanging baskets of flowers when you’re in town. Gloria has been in charge of these baskets for the past three years. Thanks to her efforts, the baskets have grown in number from twenty to seventy. Gloria raises funds for the baskets, hangs brackets, buys baskets and works with the local nursery to create colorful, lasting flower baskets. In addition to the baskets, Gloria and the Chamber of Commerce of Lee have encouraged local businesses to sponsor and care for small pocket gardens throughout Lee.

We’ve been here eleven years now. We love being involved, and are pleased that Gloria’s efforts have been well received by visitors and locals alike.

They reunite Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 8pm at the Koussevitzky Music Shed. 20,000 people are expected to attend, so book a room at our Tanglewood lodging soon.

Simon and Garfunkel have played together only a handful of times since 1970, each time drawing enormous crowds. Though their success stems from a relatively short period together (1965-1970), their music is timeless and their fans are dedicated. Their upcoming performance at Tanglewood is part of a month long tour throughout North America.

We still have openings at our Lenox bed and breakfast on July 27, 2010. Plan to stay a few days and explore the Berkshires during the week. Play a round of golf across the street at Greenock Country Club. Go for a day hike in the Bershires. Wander through the charming New England towns of Lee and Lenox. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum runs June 30 - July 11 at the Williamstown Theatre Festival

The 2010 season on the Niko’s Stage commences with It’s Jewdy’s Show: My Life as a Sitcom. Judy Gold examines her life through the classic sitcoms of her youth in this funny, heartwarming one-woman show.

The 2010 season starts on the Main Stage with June 30 with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Director Jessica Stone and an all male cast bring a “fresh, ‘old’ take on American master and Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Sondheim’s raucous musical classic.” It is guaranteed to set toes tapping and spirits soaring.

The summer 2010 line-up continues with Samuel J. and K. on July 7, Six Degrees of Separation on July 14, After the Revolution on July 21, Our Town on July 28, The Last Goodbye on August 5, and Fifth of July on August 11.

One of the reasons we were drawn to this part of the Berkshires years ago is because of its unique combination of natural beauty and world-class art and culture. We can hike, kayak, golf or swim by day, then lose ourselves in the magic of theatre in the Berkshires by night. The Bidwell House—

The Bidwell House, a beautiful example of early New England architecture, opens for the season on May 27, 2010. The oldest part of the building was built in 1750, and additional sections were added in 1790 and 1836. This is a must see for anyone interested in early American architecture.

Once you’ve amply admired the old parsonage, take some time to wander through the lovingly maintained grounds – nearly 200-acres of them.

The Bidwell House is about 10 miles south of our Lee Massachusetts bed and breakfast. It’s a quick drive, or a very pleasant bike ride. If you intend to bike, be sure to eat a hearty breakfast!

When will you attend Jacob's Pillow?

This is no mere spectator event – it’s a evening of fantastic entertainment, a sumptuous dinner, auctions, and dancing (yes, guests may dance, too). Many talented performers are scheduled to take the stage, including: ballet star Nina Ananiashvili, who will dance The Dying Swan; a “whirlwind solo” by Kyle Abraham; and a duet by Camille A. Brown. You’ll watch the world premiere of Karole Armitage’s new work, and a new film from the Jacob’s Pillow Archives. After feasting and bidding at the live and silent auctions (to support Jacob’s Pillow), you’ll rub elbows with the performers while dancing to live music on the Great Lawn. Expect to return late to our Berkshires bed and breakfast.

This is a truly special event, and we hope you can attend it. If not, there will be other opportunities to enjoy great programming during the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, which runs through August, 2010.
