Hike the Berkshires

We get quite a few avid hikers at our Berkshires bed and breakfast. Given our proximity to the Berkshires, that is no surprise. We encourage all you trail walkers to check out our Hiker’s Special. After a healthy breakfast at Applegate Inn, we will give you a trail map, water bottles and snacks, and point you in the direction of the Pleasant Valley Mass. Audubon Wildlife Preserve. We’ll even pay for your entrance to the preserve. Please mention this special when you make your reservation.

We love spring at our Berkshire b&b. The flowers are in bloom, the days are warm and the nights are cool. Nearby trails throughout the Berkshires are sparsely populated, making it a good time to explore them. The Pleasant Valley Sanctuary is quite near our bed and breakfast Lenox; it is one of the best spots in the Berkshires to catch site of a beaver or for bird watching. The 1.6 mile trail is not too strenuous, but very rewarding. When you return to the inn, have a dip in our heated pool and relax.

Catamount Ski Area has opened an Adventure Park near our Berkshires MA Bed and Breakfast. This is an exciting way to make use of a beautiful area in the Berkshire Mountains that has traditionally been most used in the winter. We are excited by what the new Adventure Park has to offer our community and guests at our Massachusetts Bed and Breakfast.

You may find yourself wondering, “What exactly is an adventure park?” It is a place to have fun while building skills. No rollercoasters here. Instead, you will find an aerial forest rope course complete with platforms in the trees connected by ropes and cable “bridges”. The goal? To move from platform to platform by various means, including via zip-line. The courses vary in difficulty, so visitors are sure to find one that meets their comfort level, or pushes them slightly beyond it. Safety is of course paramount, and participants are always fully secured by a harness.

Spending a few hours at the Swiss designed Catamount Adventure Park is a great way to experience the beauty of the Berkshires. We promise to fill you with a nutritious and delicious home made breakfast at our Lee MA Bed and Breakfast, after which you can head out for great adventure. In the evening, perhaps you will join us for a glass of sherry and regale us with tales of swinging from tree to tree.

Spring is indeed coming to the Berkshires, and a great place to experience spring is at our Berkshires Bed and Breakfast. The days have been warming the earth and the flowers are starting to show their appreciation. The grounds of the Applegate Inn are a great place to witness the arrival of spring. We have some Berkshire b&b specials this time of year to help welcome the fine, if somewhat unpredictable, spring weather. While here, the Berkshire Botanical Garden is a great place to spend an afternoon. It is hosting a special day camp for children during the week of April 20 – 24 (spring break in this area); your whole family can find interesting things to do during the day, then come together in our parlor each evening to share your stories.

The Mount, Edith Wharton’s estate in Lenox, makes a pleasant day trip from our Berkshires lodging. The restored estate and lovely gardens open for the season in May, but there are a few special events this April for those who cannot wait. Edith Wharton and her husband Teddy had the house built in 1902, and the design was strongly influenced by Wharton’s 1897 book, The Decoration of Houses. Although the couple spent most of their time abroad, The Mount remains an important monument to an influential American author.
