Shakespeare & Co. in Lenox puts on a free but heart-felt reading of the Declaration of Independence each July 4th. This year, the reading will be preceded by Revolutionary Moments, a collection of vignettes that divulge Shakespeare’s influence “on some of history’s most fascinating figures.” The afternoon concludes with a community barbecue. Los Muñequitos de Matanzas is one of the most popular bands in Cuba. The 16 drummers, vocalists and dancers fill the stage with movement and music. It is difficult to remain still while watching and listening to them. People of all ages will enjoy this show – not surprising, since the performers include three generations from one family.

Los Muñequitos de Matanzas has not been in the United States since they were nominated for a Grammy Award in 2001. We are lucky to have them perform so close to our Lee MA Bed and Breakfast.

Bill T. Jones and Arnie Zane Dance Company at Jacob's Pillow.

One need only look at Choreographer Bill T. Jones’ long career to recognize his brilliance. He won a Tony Award for Spring Awakening, he was awarded the MacArthur Genius Award in 1994, and he won the 2010 Tony Award for Best Choreography for his Broadway hit FELA. Take this opportunity to see his work live at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.

Serenade/The Proposition was created to celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. According to the Jacob’s Pillow website, Jones expertly intertwines video, costume, and sets in this feast for the senses set to a score of American folk music, excerpts from famous Civil War-era speeches and spoken word ranging from personal anecdotes to lyrics from “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” We can’t wait.

Take advantage of all the amenities while staying at our bed and breakfast Lenox MA. Stroll through our six acres of gardens and woods, or walk into charming Lee for dinner. Swim in our pool, or simply lounge by it. Sleep in and indulge in a sumptuous breakfast in the morning, and relax over wine and cheese in the evening. When you return to the city, you’ll take a little cool country relaxation with you.

When will you attend Jacob's Pillow?

This is no mere spectator event – it’s a evening of fantastic entertainment, a sumptuous dinner, auctions, and dancing (yes, guests may dance, too). Many talented performers are scheduled to take the stage, including: ballet star Nina Ananiashvili, who will dance The Dying Swan; a “whirlwind solo” by Kyle Abraham; and a duet by Camille A. Brown. You’ll watch the world premiere of Karole Armitage’s new work, and a new film from the Jacob’s Pillow Archives. After feasting and bidding at the live and silent auctions (to support Jacob’s Pillow), you’ll rub elbows with the performers while dancing to live music on the Great Lawn. Expect to return late to our Berkshires bed and breakfast.

This is a truly special event, and we hope you can attend it. If not, there will be other opportunities to enjoy great programming during the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, which runs through August, 2010.

Everyone likes to get away from time to time, but some folks just don’t do it. They are busy, or they don’t want to spend the money, or they tell themselves, “Next year I will.” Help Mom live for the moment, and send her to our luxurious bed and breakfast Berkshires.
